Investment in Sustainable Energy Soaring
Agence France-Presse (AFP) is reporting that global investment in sustainable energy is soaring based on the alignment of business, government and public (consumer) interests.
"Capital flowing into renewable energy climbed from 80 billion dollars in 2005 to a record 100 billion dollars in 2006," the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) said in a statement.
The report, entitled Global Trends in Sustainable Energy Investments, 2007, concludes that the foremost source of growth for the sustainable energy sector has been the global introduction of legislation and support mechanisms by governments, and cited the public's concern over climate change and high oil prices as providing additional impetus.
"Consumers and companies are supporting the roll out of a new energy infrastructure and a change in individual and corporate behaviour," stated the report.
